Lu Fasiaitu, the Novel
Lu Fasiaitu is the story of a warrior from the distant history of the islands of Samoa in the South Pacific. This warrior was a Navigator and Explorer who followed in the footsteps of his Grand Father and Father, both renown for their feats of courage in the discovery, exploration and settling of the many islands that now are known as Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia.
This is a story that is epic in it's setting and adventures. The original Samoan tale is told of the God Tagaloa who came down from heaven and stole Lu's chickens. Lu then went looking for his chickens through the 9 heavens where he defeated Tagaloa's forces until they came face to face in the 9th heaven. That decisive battle was won by Lu. Thus he has the title Fasiaitu, which means "he who slays Ghosts or Gods".
The tale as told in this version borrows from the scientific discoveries made in modern times that show the DNA of pre-Eusropean chickens found in the Americas, actually came from the South Pacific. This allows the story teller to expand on the Navigation skills that Polynesians have been acknowledged as having and excelling in prior to European Voyagers that came to the South Pacific only to find that the islands were inhabited by a race that had the basic same language and culture from Hawaii to New Zealand to Tahiti.
Captain Cook who is credited with 'discovering' Hawaii and New Zealand, acknowledges that the South Pacific navigators were superior to him and his compatriot "Johnny come lately Discoverers". He and other explorers actually brought Polynesians with them to show them how to get to the various islands in this vast Pacific Ocean, which they knew how to navigate like it was gong to their local store. In this story Lu's son is kidnapped by one of Tagaloa's priests, which is why Lu follows them and wages war against Tagaloa, to get his son back. This cat and mouse game went through the 9 realms of Tagaloa's Kingdom, which was known as the 9 Heavens. Tagaloa, a God/Emporer, actually lived in the Americas. Back then it was known of as the Turtle. Lu pursues these thieves and kidnappers all the way to Tagaloa's Capital. These are the cities of the pyramids of the Maya and other native American tribes.
Thus this is an epic saga of war, family, love and betrayal. The backdrop is the majestic and huge Pacific Ocean, known to the people of the Pacific or Kanaka Maoli as the Vasa Loaloa. The travel to civilizations on Asia to America, is not as far-fetched as some may believe, because the Polynesians were capable with their swift ocean sailing vessels and their knowledge of the ocean, the stars and their environment; to sail and discover the lands to the East and West of their homelands. Please enjoy the first 3 chapters in here. More will be available once we have a deal for the production of the full length film, that will be an amazing visual feast, stretching from Asia to North and South America, and everywhere in between.
